Heretech E-book Series

My first major job at Archetype was to work on the e book which was for Heretech’s series of publications for their potential clients to view and consider their services.

Heretech is a Netherlands-based company that provides mapping and location data and related services to individuals and companies

Work Flow

I worked on a total of about 6 E-books for the Heretech account in my time at Archetype.

The copy for the books were always provided. For each E-book, my job was to plan out how the copy was to be arranged based on client guidelines, add visual elements that align with the Heretech branding, find suitable stock images and basically out everything together cohesively.

Sample E-book

Below are snippets of one of the E-books I worked on within the series.

A typical start of a chapter would require a stock photo as a main visual. Stock photos that the clients wanted had to fit a cohesive theme and often multiple options were given to them.

Boxes containing a turquoise & light blue gradient, gaussian blur & transparency were often used by Heretech to highlight important information. Each and every box had to have a precise adjustment of the gradient & blur.

For the paragraphs, I used a text wrapping feature on Adobe Indesign to increase the efficacy of my work flow. However, for some pages, manual text adjustment had to be made to optimise the readability of the text.

Heretech often used these type of graphics within visuals to show information from the virtual world. It is part of their branding playbook and they provided examples for me to create these effects from scratch.

Aside from photos & graphics for main visuals, Heretech also used minimalistic icons to convey ideas. All of these icons were designed by me in a gridline system as per the brand guidelines.

Some E-books also had external links to their other company resources. I had to use embedding feature on Adobe Indesign.
